Handicaps

Divisions

In any Social Golf League, the question of handicaps raises more questions than answers. In the WCG League we implement a two-division split of an A-Division and a B-Division for each WCG event. The division split is based on the average handicap for the event in order to split the field, as evenly as possible, with members competing for A or B-Division titles, and provide more opportunity for players to claim a monthly title and win a trophy.

Playing Handicaps

Whilst we encourage all players to have a SAGA Handicap, we understand not all golfers can, and as such, in order to provide each player with a fair and equitable handicap, we implement our own WCG handicap system which is a firm, fair and comparable alternative.

We have our own WCG Handicap Committee who capture, calculate and manage our WCG handicaps. Our handicap system has been utilized for a number of years and is a tried and tested solution for a league of this nature.

We calculate WCG playing handicaps for all members as well as the respective SAGA handicaps for those members that have an official SAGA Handicap with the player playing off the lower of these two handicaps at WCG events.

A detailed breakdown and explanation of the handicaps is available.

General Rules

Rules

  1. As a rule, we do not allow placing (preferred lies) unless it specified and included as a local rule by the course hosting our event.

  2. We like to have fast but enjoyable round of golf as such we urge all players to keep up with the group in front of them. We also urge players to play “ready golf” in order to ensure they do not fall behind the player ahead of them, but to do so in a safe and responsible manner.

  3. If there is uncertainty regarding a ruling on the course, the respective player is to play two balls and approach the Committee after the round to provide a ruling. The Committee may consult with the club staff (golf director etc) to resolve the issue and finalise the ruling.

  4. Golf is a game of integrity, and we believe our members will play the game in the spirit of fair competition. However, should any member suspect or witness another WCG player committing any kind of misconduct, it is to be brought to the attention of the Committee so that it can be dealt with timeously. The WCG does not tolerate cheating (on or off the course) and should any member be found guilty of cheating; they will be removed from the WCG league.

  5. Live Scoring - one member within every fourball has to be identified to enter scores on the live scoring app on a hole-by-hole basis.

  6. Scorecards - each fourball only has to submit one scorecard and similar to the live scoring, one member in the fourball is selected to complete the scorecard. Each member in the fourball still has the responsibility to check their scores are correctly entered before the scorecard is signed and handed in.

  7. Prize Giving - we request all WCG members to attend the prize giving which will be held on completion of the round once all scores have been received, checked and verified. A member who wins a prize and is not present at prize giving will forfeit their prize unless there is a genuine emergency situation that does not allow a member to attend prize giving.

  8. There may be instances where we need to inform WCG members of additional rules, and these will be sent through on the WhatsApp General Chat channel.
