Our
Formats
This provides a little more detail regarding how we play our games here at the WCG…
Monthly WCG Rounds
Our monthly WCG rounds played at various course around the Western Cape are based on the Individual Points Stableford (IPS) format.
Whilst we have a number of other formats and internal competitions running at the same time (including the Betterball Matchplay Knockout), all results are based on IPS scores.
Although we have distinct social element to our game, in order to protect the field, each golfer has to either hole-out as we do not allow any “gimmies” or “mulligans” as part of our scoring.
Winter and Summer Championships
These Winter and Summer Championships are held in June and November respectively and are played over two days (Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning). We usually play these events outside of the Cape Town area and prefer a course that allows us to enjoy a weekend away with our partners and family and enjoy a social evening together to discuss our golf, meet the families and significant others and just relax with good company.
The A-Division play 2 rounds of medal golf (with their scores being converted to Stableford points for the year long individual OoM) whilst the B-Division play 2 rounds of Individual Stableford.
The Saturday pairings and tee times are based on the OoM standings whilst the Sunday pairings and tee times are taken from the Saturdays’ results.
These two events provide the WCG members an opportunity to be crowned as a Championship Golfer and be rewarded for consistent play in back-to-back rounds. Your BMT will be tested to the fullest degree !!!
Betterball Knockout
Choose your partner and sign up early to participate in this exciting format!
Based on the number of teams that sign up, a draw is held to place them in one of four groups where each team will play the other teams in the pool.
Stages
The top 4 teams from each of the pools will progress to the elimination stage where the Knockout commences as we look to crown the Betterball Knockout Champions for the Year.
If you want to join but don’t have a partner yet, let us know and we can pair you up with another WCG member.
Special Events
We are also looking to host one or two Special Events once the season is up and running where we have an opportunity to experience different types of competition formats and leave the IPS format at the door.

End of Season Awards
Our December (season ending) event is a combination of the Final rounds for the various competitions followed by the Awards Dinner. Players will tee off in order of the Order of Merit standings before the final round, so that the last players to tee off on this day, are in fact those who are closest in terms of competition for the title of WCG Player of the Year.
Partners are encouraged to join us for the Awards dinner as we celebrate the year’s competition and enjoy a great evening together and review the highlights of the season that has just completed.
