The WCG was originally birthed as the Royal Golfers at the end of 2019, with the intention of drawing in like-minded golf enthusiasts from all levels of experience and creating an all inclusive, social, welcoming and competitive league that is well organized and easy to be part of.

The aim was to get these players together once a month and play a different course around the Western Cape and enjoy all that the game has to offer. (Tears, laughter, healthy competition and the fair-play golf experience. Mulligans and gimmes were not welcome.)

We didn’t anticipate how quickly the league would grow and by the 2nd league game in 2020, we had well over 40 active Members. Then the dreaded C-word arrived and the world got flipped on its head. The great news is that we as a nation are resilient, as a golfing nation, “persistent”, so this only hampered us for a couple months and before we knew it, we were back on the course. even with the strict conditions, the

Players did what they wanted to do, which was to play golf!

The league continued to grow year on year and the comradery forged friendships that stretched out further than just the league games. The name may have changed, but the aim has not. As we enter into our 5th year of existence, we have looked back at the foundation that has been established, the lessons we have learnt, and the fantastic relationships we have developed and look forward to going into 2024 with even more confidence.

We are looking forward to the new year’s league starting, in order to to build on the friendships and business connections made over the past number years, whilst at the same time welcoming new faces and forming new healthy relationships with any and all new members who choose join us throughout the year itself.
